Fertility rate, total (births per woman)¶
Indicator id: fertility_rate_total · Unit: births per woman · Coverage: 1960-2024
The number of children that would be born to a woman if she were to live to the end of her childbearing years and bear children in accordance with age-specific fertility rates of the specified year.
Sources¶
- World Bank (preferred) -- dataset
WDI, codeSP.DYN.TFRT.IN(https://data.worldbank.org) - DHS Program -- dataset
NP-DHS, codeFE_FRTR_W_TFR(https://dhsprogram.com)
Reconciliation note: World Bank is a modelled annual series; DHS is a direct survey estimate for the three years preceding each survey round only (1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016, 2022). Expect the DHS figure to sit closest to its own survey year and the WB figure to be smoother between rounds.
Caveats¶
Modelled WB estimates interpolate between census/survey years; DHS is survey-based and only updates at each survey round.
